In this session, participants will have a tour of the Richmond Art Gallery's current exhibition "That Other Hunger" followed by a hands-on workshop exploring the themes of the exhibition and the ways in which art teachers can incorporate contemporary art themes into their curriculum. Featuring a series of videos, textiles, and sculptures, Vanessa Brown’s solo exhibition "That Other Hunger" expands from the concept of the hole. The artist’s eclectic research ranges from geographical craters, caves, and black holes to imagined portals into other worlds. Through the portal of her exhibition, visitors are invited on a journey into an unexpected world. In the workshop, participants will explore printmaking and mixed media techniques and discuss approaches to contemporary art explorations in elementary and secondary educational contexts.
